The Giver

Picture
Title: The Giver

Author: Lois Lowry

Genre: Speculative Fiction

Jonas is a 12 year old boy whose life is perfect so far. He has the perfect family, friends, and community. Jonas gets the job of receiver which is to watch over and protect the people of Utopia. After a while Jonas finds out the community isn’t as perfect as it seems. He risks this life to change the way people in his community are treated and searches for Elsewhere.

The theme that the author is trying to tell the reader is perfect isn’t always best. I agree with the author of The Giver because you can always do better than perfect. I remember when my mom was telling me that our family needs to be perfect. Then I remembered that nothing and nobody can be perfect without being human.

I enjoyed the book The Giver. I thought it was very interesting how the Giver gave Jonas all of these different memories. I like the memory when it was Christmas and all of the family was together by the fire with all of their presents. Jonas got to experience the felling of Love. The one thing that I didn’t like about the book was the ending. I didn’t like how Jonas just left his family and friends behind. I would rate The Giver 4 stars. I thought it had a very good description of what it would be like if everything was perfect. I would recommend this book to basically anyone unless you aren’t into a little mystery.
